Overview: Blade Server System
Installation Steps
In this chapter you will find an overview of the steps necessary to install your
blade server system. Links guide you to sections where you can find more
detailed information on the individual steps.
Ê At first, please take notice of chapter "Important Notes" beginning on
page 13, especially of section "Notes On Safety".
Ê Unpack the system, check the contents of the package for visible transport
damage and check whether the delivery agrees with the details in the
delivery note (see section 4.2 on page 24).
Ê Mount the system into the rack (see 4.3 on page 25 and also the layout
arrangement on the order lists).
Ê Cable the system (see 4.4 on page 31). Please also refer to the section
"Cable Routing" on page 34 and the section "Instructions On Connecting
and Disconnecting Cables" on page 39.
Ê Connect the system to the line voltage (see 4.5 on page 40).
Ê Make yourself familiar with the operating and indicator elements on the front
and on the rear side of the blade server system (see chapter 5 beginning on
page 41).
Ê Install the desired operating systems and applications to the server blades.
To do so, you have the following possibilities:
– Cloning a server blade from a remote image server with RemoteDeploy
Recommended if the following prerequisites are fulfilled:
– the RemoteDeploy software is available
– an appropriate cloning image is available
– deployment server and LAN connection are available
– Remote installation with ServerStart
This installation method is recommended if a LAN connection and a
DHCP server (deployment server) are available but the prerequisites for
cloning are not fulfilled.
