INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF SPACE AVAILABLE
TO THE USER
Introduction
As Figure 60.2 shows, there is another way to look
at a disk cartridge. Simply stated, at any point in
time, the disk can be split into two portions:
•
The portion now being used.
•
The portion not now being used and therefore
available to you.
If you have a data file that you want to store on a
disk, you can ask several pertinent questions:
How much room do I need?
How much room do I have?
How can I make more room, if necessary?
The first question is covered in Section 80; the
other two are answered in 60.20.10 and 60.20.20,
respectively.
