Introduction
Conceptually, disk storage can be divided into five
logical areas:
- Cylinder 0
- IDM Systems Area
- User Area
- Working Storage
- Fixed Area

The contents and use of these areas are discussed
in detail in the Monitor SRL manual, and in general
terms here.
Note that these areas are logical or symbolic,
rather than physical areas. They are not neces-
sarily intact or contiguous. Some of the items in one
logical area may, in fact, be physically located be-
tween two items in another logical area.
The term "logical", as it is used here, denotes
a system organized for ease of understanding,
rather than for accurate technical detail.
