Data Switches
Mounted on the front face of the console printer is
a row of 16 toggle switches, called data switches.
They may be used by the programmer for the entry
of yes-or-no type information into the system. For
example, one payroll program might handle both
factory workers and office workers, with each group
processed separately.
The program could be
written to read, say, data switch 6, treating the in-
put time cards as factory workers
if
that switch is
on, and as office workers
if
it is off.
other uses of the console switches are to bypass
certain portions of a program, activate the
FORTRAN TRACE, etc.
