WDS, Wireless Distribution System, is a protocol for connecting access points (AP) wirelessly
to establish network environments. Usually, it can be used for the following application:
Provide bridge traffic between two LANs through the air (by Bridge Mode)
Extend the coverage range of a WLAN (by Repeater mode)

Signal
Wireless stations (clients) within the effective range of
wireless signal can access into Internet through the router
/AP.
Wireless stations (clients) out of the effective range of
Limited
wireless signal cannot access into Internet through the router
/AP with Bridge mode configured.
The packets received from a WDS link will only be
forwarded to local wired or wireless hosts.
Wireless stations (clients) within the effective range of
wireless signal can access into Internet through the router
/AP.
Wireless stations (clients) out of the effective range of
Extended
wireless signal can access into Internet through the router
/AP with Repeater mode configured.
The packets received from one Vigor router can be repeated
to another AP (remotely) through WDS links.
Only Repeater mode can do WDS-to-WDS packet
forwarding.
