Turn off the power to the system unit and turn it back on
again.
Turning off the power or pressing the halt button with

your workstation and any worksystem software running may
result in the loss or corruption of data.

Console prompts

When you use console mode, the workstation displays one of
these two prompts on the system console screen:
The
prompt means that the workstation is in privileged

mode. Anyone can use all the console commands.
The
prompt means that the workstation is in restricted

mode. Users who don't know the password can use only the
boot and password console commands.

Using Operating Mode

You use the workstation in operating mode most of the time,
because that is the mode for using your worksystem software.
This software consists of an operating system and applications.
You use it for such activities as
Running applications in DECwindows
Backing up files
Sending and receiving electronic mail
