Connecting the Workstation to a ThinWire Ethernet Network

To connect a ThinWire Ethernet cable to the workstation,
you need a ThickWire-to-ThinWire adapter called a DESTA,
a ThinWire Ethernet T-connector, a ThinWire Ethernet
terminator, and a DESTA-to-ThickWire cable. These are
optional items that you must order separately.
You need the terminator only if your workstation connects at
the end of the ThinWire Ethernet cable. You do not need it if
your workstation connects in the middle of the cable. Ask your
system manager if you need the terminator.
Unpack the DESTA, ThinWire Ethernet T-connector,
1.
ThinWire Ethernet terminator, and DESTA-to-ThickWire
cable.
Follow the instructions that came with your worksystem
2.
software to shut down the software.
Turn off the system unit by pressing the 0 on the on/off
3.
switch on the back of the unit.
The ThickWire Ethernet connector that you are going to
4.
use on the system unit should have a loopback connector
attached. Use your finger or a simple tool, such as a
flat-blade screwdriver, to unlock the loopback connector
by sliding the lock on the system unit. Then remove the
loopback connector, as shown in Figure 6-3, on page 6-4.
Choose the end of the DESTA-to-ThickWire cable that
5.
has no sliding lock. Hold it so that the widest part of the
connector faces up.
Push the connector all the way into the ThickWire Ethernet
6.
connector on the system unit.
Use your finger or a simple tool, such as a flat-blade
7.
screwdriver, to slide the connector lock on the system unit.
Hold the other end of the DESTA-to-ThickWire cable so
8.
that the widest part of the connector is on top, and hold the
DESTA so that the ThickWire Ethernet connector on it is
aligned with the cable connector. Notice that the connectors
are shaped so that they fit only one way, as shown in
Figure 6-5, on page 6-8.
