Table 10-3. Self-Test Error Messages for the Base System Slot
cache/data
The RAM cache in the CPU module is faulty. Copy the entire message

and call your system manager or Customer Support Center.

fpu
The math coprocessor in the CPU module is faulty. Copy the entire
message and call your system manager or Customer Support Center.
mem
RAM is faulty. Make sure that all memory modules are firmly seated
in their connectors in the system unit. Then run the memory test.
Type t 3/mem * and press Return. The memory test checks every
memory module, taking several minutes for each one. If it finds a
problem, it displays one of two types of message. The first type of
message has this format:
?TFL: 3/mem (PER, cause=0000001C, DBE = 004000c,
Bank 1, D16-31, d23-d16)
The message identifies the faulty memory modules. The bank number
is the number of the memory slot.
the example. Bank numbers can be 0 to 7. Bank 0 is the memory slot
nearest the back of the system unit; bank 7 is the slot nearest the
front. The SIMM number is the memory module in the slot.
is the SIMM number in the example. SIMM numbers can be D0-15
or D16-31. D0-15 is the memory module next to the power supply;
D16-31 is the memory module away furthest the power supply.
You should replace every memory module for which an error message
appears. Chapter 4 explains how to replace memory modules.
If the messages show that all memory modules are faulty, remove
all of them. Then install at least 8 megabytes of memory with new
memory modules and run the system memory test again. If the test
still reports a problem, copy the entire message and call your system
manager or Customer Support Center.
The second type of message that the memory test displays has this
format:
?TFL: 3/mem (@ A04000000=55550055, sb 55555555)
