1.3 Hardware Setup

1.3.1

Hardware Requirements

To use the Net2Phone MAX 4, you will need
Ÿ A Net2Phone MAX 4 unit
Ÿ A corded or cordless analog telephone and from one to three ancillary phones
Ÿ A Local Area Network (LAN) with a broadband connection which may not have proxy server
caching
Ÿ A PC or Mac workstation with any recent Web browser, connected to the LAN (for initial
setup and administration)
Ÿ A Net2Phone account number and PIN

Additional Requirements

To configure and manage the unit, you will need:
Ÿ An IP address, netmask, and gateway address for the MAX 4 (if your LAN uses static
addresses).
Ÿ A Net2Phone account number and PIN (available from your reseller).
Ÿ A PC or Mac workstation with any recent Web browser, connected to the LAN, for initial setup
and system management.
Ÿ Optional: a PBX, APBX, or KPS with an analog trunk card installed.

A Hardware Installation Guide that describes hardware installation, cabling, and safety-related
issues was provided along with your MAX 4 unit. Please read that manual in its entirety before
beginning your hardware installation. Make sure you completely understand the issues
discussed and, in particular, the safety warnings given.

Steps in the Hardware Setup Procedure
The steps you will follow to set up your Net2Phone MAX 4 are:
1. Install the MAX 4 unit in its location and connect the cabling.
2. Configure the LAN settings on the MAX 4 so that it communicates with your LAN.
