4E1: Davit
The boat uses its mast and boom to launch the Dinghy. This is expedited by an electric windlass that
serves as the actual hoist. There are videos on the OceanFlyer IPad detailing the launching and
retreiving of the dinghy.
To launch it:
1.
Start the Generator with the Inverter "On", and turn on the anchor windlass breaker by the
lower helm. It is also the davit breaker!
2.
Get the remote control in the utility storage box under the aft side of the flybridge L-Settee.
Plug in the remote control to the receptacle on the side of the aft starboard seat.
3.
4.
Remove the tiedowns on the dinghy;
5.
Uncleat the line (the cleat is on the
boom near the mast) that holds the
trolleys to allow the pickup point to be
moved in or out on the boom for greater
clearance.
6.
With the hoist cable engaged in the
dinghy bridle, uncleat the lines that
prevent the boom from swinging.
7.
Hoist the dingy and swing it over the
water while a crew member holds the
dinghy using the dinghy's bow painter.
8.
Important: While the dinghy is full
abeam of OceanFlyer, be sure it is as far to starboard as possible,
and keep the dinghy from rubbing the side of OceanFlyer's hull as
it is lowered to the water.
9.
Paying out the hoist cable, have the crew member lead the dinghy back to the swim step.
10. Ease the cable (windlass out) and unhook the bridle from the dinghy.
11. Important: Take in the cable while holding some tension on it and hook the bridle around a
rail so that the hook doesn't flail around while it is unattended, and cleat the boom lines to
keep it from swinging. Turn off the anchor windlass breaker.
To bring the dinghy aboard:
Reverse the above process.
