13.15 Paper Cutter
Troubles (not
LinerLess)
Intermec EasyCoder 301 – Service Manual Ed. 3
When the printer is started, the PIC checks if the cutter blade is in
home position (blade open). If not, the motor is ordered to run the
blade to home position. When the "cut _start" signal goes high, the
motor is set in forward motion and a microswitch senses when the
blade is back in home position after having completed a cut cycle.
The cutter has a safety microswitch that makes it inactive if the
cutter unit is opened ever so slightly in relation to the printer body.
Description:
- The cutter is "dead".
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Cutter is not properly connected to printer.
- Check cable and connector.
• No cutting instruction is given.
- Check that a CUT or CUT ON instruction is sent to the printer.
• Electrical fault in cutter. Open the cutter, disconnect it and
disassemble the cutting mechanism from the housing.
- Check connectors X1 and X2.
- Check soldering points and connections for the microswitch.
- Check for burning marks on components on the cutter's circuit
board.
Description:
- The cutter keeps cycling all the time.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• Electrical fault in cutter. Open the cutter, disconnect it and
disassemble the cutting mechanism from the housing.
- Check the home position microswitch.
Description:
- The cutter causes paper jams.
Possible Causes and Suggested Remedies:
• The cutter has an automatic anti-jamming program (PIC-proc-
essor). The cutter will (if possible) pull back the blade if jamming
occurs and stop it in home position, the LED will turn red and an
error message will be sent to the host. If the blade gets stuck on
its way back and the printer is not able to return it to home
position within 2 seconds (time-out), the motor will stop.
- Open the cutter, disconnect it and manually clear the paper
jam.
- Connect and close the cutter.
- Issue a CUT command or reboot the printer to resume normal
operation.
