Intermec EasyCoder 301 – Service Manual Ed. 3
Description
The platen roller is subject to wear and may need occasional
replacement. Regular cleaning, as described in the EasyCoder 301
(LinerLess) Installation & Operation manual, prolongs the life of
the roller. Do not use any substance other than isopropyl alcohol.
Some solvents may damage the surface of the platen roller. The
material of the platen roller differs between the standard and the
LinerLess models, that latter having special properties to prevent
the label adhesive to stick to it.
The platen roller is held by two permanently lubricated bronze
bearing fitted into seats in walls protruding from the bottom plate.
The shaft runs through a hole in the centre-line wall into the
electronics compartment, where a tooth belt pulley is pressed on the
D-plane at the end of the shaft. A short tooth-belt runs to the pulley
of the stepper motor.

Replacement
• Open the electrics cover as described in chapter 2.3.
• Remove the CPU board as described in chapter 11.2.
• Pull away the tooth belt from the platen roller pulley.
• Insert a flat screwdriver under the outer bearing and pry it loose
upwards (snap-locked).
• Insert a large screwdriver or similar tool between the inner
bearing and the centre-line wall and carefully pry out the bearing
and platen roller so the pulley comes loose from the shaft.
• Pull out the platen roller.
• Reassemble in reverse order, making sure that the bearings are
forced down as far as they go (flat sides down!).
• Check that the platen roller is in parallel with the printhead by
printing a test label as described in chapter 13.1. The printout
should have an even blackness across the paper.
