ENGINE OPERATION

4. Shallow water running

During shallow water operation, be
careful not to place your hand between
the swivel bracket and the stern
bracket.
Be sure to tilt the outboard down slowly.
Note
Slow down to trolling speed, and shift
into neutral before setting outboard
motor to shallow water drive position.

● Run at lowest possible speed
during cruising using shallow water
drive.
● Tilt lock is disabled when in shallow
water drive position.
● When driving shallow water, be
careful not to strike outboard motor
against sea bottom, or propeller
may be pushed out of water,
resulting in loss of control.

While in shallow water drive position,
do not operate the outboard in reverse.
Operate the outboard at slow speed
and keep the cooling water intake
submerged.
■ E, EF, EFO,EPO type
1 S e t t h e R e v e r s e L o c k L e v e r
provided on the starboard side to
"Release" by turning it downward.
2 Tilt the engine up approx.
45°and lower it. The engine will now
be set to the shallow water setting.
3 Releasing the shallow water setting
a. Turn the Reverse Lock Lever upward
to set them in "LOCK" position.
b. Tilt up the engine slightly and then
let it go down. The shallow water
setting is then released.
c. The engine is released from shallow
water setting, and locked at normal
running position.
■ EFTO, EPTO type
Tilt up the engine using the Power Trim
& Tilt system.
