When the oven controlsare set to CLEAN, the oven heats to temperaturesthat are
higherthanthose usedfor cooking. The high temperaturescause foodsoilto burn off
and substantially disappear. While this occurs, a device in the oven vent helps to
consumenormal amountsof smoke. The oven isventedat thebase ofthe backsplaah.
• Remove the roasting/broiler pan and any other utensils from the oven. These
utensilscannot withstandthe hightemperaturesof the cleaning process.
• Clean spattersand spillsfrom those areaswhichwill notbe cleanedduringthe self-
cleaningprocess:
- center frontof oven and door near openingin door gasket.
- porcelain oven door liner (area outsidethe doorgasket).
- oven front frame.
To clean these areas, use hot water and
detergent, nonabrasive cleansers or soap
filled steel wool pads.
Rinse thoroughly,
beingcareful notto usean excessiveamount
of water thatwoulddampen the door gasket.
Soil left in these areas will be more difficult to
remove after the self-cleaning process since
the high heat will bake on any soil that is
present, DONOT USE COMMERCIAL OVEN
CLEANERS TO CLEAN THESE AREAS.
• DO NOTATTEMPT TO CLEAN,RUB, OR APPLYWATER TO GASKETON OVEN
DOOR. The gasket is essential for a good door seal. Rubbingor cleaning will
damage the gasket and may affect the seal.
• Wipe up excessgrease and food spilloverewhichhave not bakedon the bottomof
the oven. Large accumulations of soilcan cause heavysmokeor fire in the oven
during the cleaningprocess.
• Althoughsmoke or fire in the oven is a normal occurrenceand there is no safety
problem,there will be venting of excessive smokeand odor.
