Facing Requirements

The included fiber board (or other non-combustible) is required from the tile stop to the header (see
"a" below) and to the framing on both sides (see "b" below). See "Fiber Board Installation" for further
details.
Non-combustible facing must extend 2" (51mm) above the tile stop (see "c" below). Use the included
fiber board or other non-combustible. Drywall or other combustible may not be place on top of this
non-combustible area.
Drywall (or other combustible) may be placed on top of the fiber board, except in the area within 2"
above the tile stop.
Tile or other non-combustible facing may be placed along the perimeter of the tile stop, but must not
extend over it. This area must remain open to allow for glass frame removal and air flow.
WARNING: Do not use adhesive to secure the facing. The high temperatures of the
fireplace may cause adhesives to emit odors. Use mastic or thin set (or other non-
combustible, non-odorous adherent) to attach the facing.
NOTE: Screws may be used to secure cement board or tile backer to the fireplace. Do not
penetrate the fireplace more than 1/2" (13mm).
