Chapter 2 Checking before OS Installation

2.1 Preparation on the Server

Before starting OS installation, prepare the server and perform hardware settings.

2.1.1 Installing Options

For details on how to install internal options, refer to "Chapter 6 Installing Internal Options" ( pg.133).
Installing 5-inch internal device options
To install an OS with 5-inch internal device options installed, check the following points.
When using Internal Data Cartridge Drive Unit
To install an OS with Internal Data Cartridge Drive Unit installed, check that no data cartridge is
inserted. If a data cartridge is inserted, remove it, and then start installing the OS.
When using Internal HDD Unit Bay Conversion kit
When an array is configured with internal hard disk units installed in Internal HDD Unit Bay
Conversion kit, delete the array configuration. Once the array configuration is deleted, data in the array
will also be deleted. Make sure that no data exists in the disk before deleting the array configuration. If
any data exists (for example, when reinstalling the OS), back up the data.
After the OS is installed, reset the array configuration, and recover the backup data.
Installing optional external devices
To install an OS with an optional external device connected, check the following points.
• When using PRIMERGY SX35 whose internal hard disk units have an array configuration, delete the
array configuration. Once the array configuration is deleted, data in the array will also be deleted.
Make sure that no data exists in the disk before deleting the array configuration. If any data exists (for
example, when reinstalling the OS), back up the data. After the OS is installed, reset the array
configuration, and recover the backup data.
• When using an external storage system such as ETERNUS, do not turn on the power of the storage
system until the OS installation completes by, for example, unplugging the AC cable.
Cautions for installing an expansion card
When using an expansion card, read the notes on the expansion card.
