Coolant

WARNING
• Be careful when opening the bonnet if
the engine is overheated. Never undo
the expansion tank cap fully while the
coolant is hot.
• The cooling system is pressurised.
This can cause hot coolant and vapour
can escape causing injury to your
eyes and burns.
• Exercise care when adding glycol.
Glycol on hot surfaces constitutes a
fire risk.
There is an overpressure in the cooling
system. Coolant temperatures can some-
times exceed 100 °C.
If the level of coolant in the expansion tank
drops too low, the following message
appears on the DIC:
Coolant level low.
Refill.
The properties of the coolant are retained
for the entire service life of the car. There-
fore, it is not necessary to change the
coolant.
The coolant contains 45 % antifreeze and
anti-corrosion fluid. This ratio gives the best
cooling effect. Lower concentrations should
be avoided, in view of the corrosion risk.
Coolants of a different brand could damage
the engine or cooling system. We therefore
recommend strict use of coolants that have
been approved by Cadillac.
If the expansion tank is empty when coolant
is added, run the engine until warm so that
the thermostat opens. Top up the tank
again, as necessary.
NOTICE
If coolant requires filling, first blend equal
parts coolant and tap water or distilled
water.
If straight coolant is added, the engine
could still freeze and be damaged. This is
because the concentrated coolant will not
mix properly with the coolant until the
thermostat has opened to allow full circu-
lation.
