Water in fuel 3
The fuel passes through a filter on its way
from the tank to the engine. The filter traps
any water in the fuel. When there is an
excessive amount of water in the filter, the
following message appears in DIC:
Water in fuel.
Contact service.
Contact a workshop to have the problem
remedied. We recommend that you contact
an authorised Cadillac workshop.
If you run out of fuel
If your diesel-engined car runs out of fuel,
proceed as follows:
• Put in at least 5 litres of fuel. More is
required if the car is on a tilt.
• Start the engine as usual.
• Do not touch the accelerator.
NOTICE
Do not run the starter motor for an unnec-
essarily long time if there is no fuel in the
tank. This could otherwise damage the
high-pressure pump.
Filling a fuel tank
WARNING
Never fill a fuel can that is standing in the
car. Static electricity from the can could
ignite the petrol fumes. This can cause
severe burns and damage to the car. To
avoid this happening:
• only use an approved fuel can
• never fill the fuel can while it is
standing in the car, in the luggage
compartment or any other surface
than the ground
• make sure that the pump nozzle
touches the can's filler orifice before
starting to fill it. Maintain contact
throughout filling
• do not smoke while filling.
