To change the search method:

Using the Search feature in the Address Book

To search for a contact while accessing your personal Address Book, use
the dialpad to enter the search information. For example:
Index Search - To search for a contact using the Index Search
method enter the index number. When entering an index number
larger that 9 you must enter the next digit quickly to move to that item
on the list. For example, if the address you need is item 28 on the list
you must enter the digit 8 quickly after entering the digit 2.
1st Character Search - To search for a contact whose name begins
with the letter "d", using the, press the "d"(3) key on the dialpad. The
first entry in the Address Book that begins with the letter "d" appears.
Name Search - To search for a specific name in your personal
Address Book, enter the name using the dialpad.
