Machine always answers before its possible to use the external tele-
phone. If an external telephone is connected, change the machine's ring
response setting (see Customizing Operation Functions).
Faxes received sometimes look distorted. If the document received is
wider or longer than the paper loaded in the paper tray, the machine auto-
matically reduces the width or length of the document so that it will fit on
the paper. This type of problem could also be communication related.
Reception of unsolicited faxes (advertising). Try using the closed
network function (see Basic Operations).
The display shows a invalid toner cartridge. A toner cartridge that is
not specified for use in this fax machine has been installed. Contact the
nearest supplier for service.
The display shows a invalid image drum. A image drum that is not
specified for use in this fax machine has been installed. Contact the
nearest supplier for service.

The following table shows a list of error messages which may appear in
the display under various operating conditions.

Explanation
Under normal operating
conditions, the top line of the
display shows the time and
the answering mode: FAX,
TEL, T/F, MEM, FWD, TAD
or PC. The bottom line of the
display shows the amount of
memory available.
This message is displayed
when memory becomes full.
Sometimes the memory
overflow message does not
exist in memory.
Open and close the cover. If
this does not clear the
message, turn off the machine
and contact your supplier for
service.
