Plan Power Supply Requirements
Follow these recommendations when you are planning your connections for your Extreme Networks
equipment.
1 Place the equipment in an area that accommodates the power consumption and component heat
dissipation specifications.
2 Be sure that your power supply meets the site DC power or AC power requirements of the network
equipment.
3 When you connect power to installed equipment, do not make this connection through an extension
cord or power strip.
4 If your router includes more than one power supply, connect each power supply to a different,
independent power source.
If a power source fails, it will affect only the router power supply to which it is connected. If all router
power supplies are connected to a single power source, the entire router is vulnerable to a power
source failure.
5 In regions that are susceptible to electrical storms, Extreme Networks recommends that you plug
your system into a surge suppressor.

Turning off and on your unit
The chassis does not have a switch for turning power to the unit on and off.
Warning
For systems using an AC power supply, remove the wall plug from the electrical outlet to
disconnect the power to the router.

AC Power Cord Requirements

AC power input cords are not included with BlackDiamond X8 power supplies.
You can purchase AC power cords for use in the US and Canada from Extreme Networks or from your
local supplier.
Make sure that the power cord you use is certified for the country of end use and suitable for the
device. Check your local electrical codes and regulatory agencies for power cable requirements.
