Answering calls manually

NOTE
• To answer a call manually, you must nstall an optonal handset or an external
phone to your machne.
• Make sure there are no documents n the ADF.
Receiving a call manually with an optional handset or an external phone
In "Tel Ready Mode " or "Tel/Fax Ready Mode", when the optonal handset or exter-
nal phone rngs, pck up the handset:
• When you hear the fax tones ("beep-beep-beep"), pck up the handset and press
<Start>. After pressng <Start>, put down the optonal handset or the external
phone's handset. Press <Start> as soon as you hear the beepng sound, ths wll
prompt the remote machne to begn transmttng.

If paper runs out during fax reception

When your machne runs out of paper, t wll beep, the Alarm lamp wll lght and
the machne wll show whch paper source s empty — the 1st cassette, 2nd cassette
(optonal) or the bypass tray.

Set the machne to "Ans/Fax Ready" mode (See "Selectng the recepton mode"
on page 4-36.)
Set your answerng machne to answer calls after no more than two rngs.
Create a new outgong message on your answerng machne.
Your answerng machne's outgong message should be no longer than 10 sec-
onds.
(When paper runs out n the 1st cassette)
