Draining and replacing the MS40+ pump oil and replacing the filter
8 Unscrew slowly the oil drain cap by rotating it counterclockwise using the
10-mm hex key. Let the oil flow out. In the meantime, clean the inside of the
drain plug.
9 After the oil has been drained, close the drain plug tight.
10 Take the tank of waste oil away and clean thoroughly, using rags of cotton or
other suitable material to dry.
Steps for replacing the MS40+ pump oil
1 Unscrew the oil fill cap, rotating it counterclockwise using a 10-mm hex key.
2 Remove it from the instrument and place it in a secure location.
3 Add AVF 60 Gold oil until reaching the maximum level on the sight glass.
4 Close the oil fill cap tight using the 10-mm hex key.
5 Replace the oil mist filter.
Steps for replacing the MS40+ oil mist filter
1 Disconnect the exhaust tube.
2 Unscrew the filter cap using the MS40 exhaust filter cap removal tool.
3 Remove the O-ring from the filter cap.
4 Remove the old filter from the instrument.
5 Remove the O-ring from the filter.
6 Install the new, small O-ring on the new filter, then install the filter into the
pump in the proper orientation. Make sure the distance of the filter is greater
than 2 cm from outside the cap threads.
7 When properly installed, the filter cap is flush to the pump. The back end of the
filter is seated inside the filter mount. It may be necessary to wiggle or adjust
the filter to seat it in the correct position.
8 Install the new, large O-ring and filter cap.
9 Connect the exhaust tube.
10 Plug in the rough pump and all power cords from the LC/MS instrument.
11 Press the front power switch to initiate pump down, returning the instrument
to normal operation.
