Front brake caliper bleed screw
5 Nm (0.5 m·kgf, 3.6 ft·lbf)
k. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the
proper level with the specified brake fluid.
Refer to "CHECKING THE BRAKE FLUID
LEVEL" on page 3-11.

After bleeding the hydraulic brake system,
check the brake operation.

2. Bleed:
• Rear hydraulic brake system

a. Fully squeeze the front brake lever and use a
band or similar item "1" to hold it in position.

b. Slide the rubber cover "1" to the left, and then
check that the equalizer "2" is positioned as
shown in the illustration.

c. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the
proper level with the specified brake fluid.
d. Install the diaphragm (brake master cylinder
reservoir).
e. Connect a clear plastic hose "1" tightly to the
bleed screw "2".

PERIODIC MAINTENANCE
f. Place the other end of the hose into a con-
tainer.

g. Slowly apply the brake several times.
h. Fully pull the brake lever and hold it in posi-
tion.
i. Loosen the bleed screw.

TIP
Loosening the bleed screw will release the pres-
sure and cause the brake lever to contact the
handlebar grip.
j. Tighten the bleed screw, and then release
the brake lever.
k. Repeat steps (g) to (j) until all of the air bub-
bles have disappeared from the brake fluid in
the plastic hose.
l. Tighten the bleed screw to specification.
m. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir to the
proper level with the specified brake fluid.
Refer to "CHECKING THE BRAKE FLUID
LEVEL" on page 3-11.
n. Slide the rubber cover to its original position.
o. Remove the band that is holding the front
brake lever.
