Requirements for use

4.1

System requirements

The following system requirements are necessary for the use of SIMOCRANE ESSM V01.01:
• The engineering platform "Totally Integrated Automation Portal" Version 17 or higher is
installed on the engineering PC.
• A valid license key for SIMOCRANE ESSM is available.
• A STEP 7 Professional license must be installed on the engineering PC in order to use the
STEP 7 libraries.
• SINAMICS DCP is used as a power controller between the drive DC link and the battery.
SINAMICS DCP 120 kW can be used.
• The crane application and crane hardware must be compatible with SIMOCRANE ESSM (see
section Crane applications (Page 34)).
• The charge current of the battery must be > 50 A.

Energy storage system

4.2.1
Energy storage system
The "Layout diagram of energy storage system with SIMOCRANE ESSM" below illustrates the
basic hardware design of the energy storage system (ESS). This basic design is the requirement
for the use of SIMOCRANE Energy Storage System Management (ESSM):
• Energy Storage System interface PLC, implemented by means of SIMATIC PLC with
SIMOCRANE ESSM V01.00
• HMI panel for local operation and diagnostics, e.g. SIMATIC TP1500 Comfort
• Power converters (up to 8 in parallel), each divided into:
– 1 x pre-charging circuit
– 1 x SINAMICS DCP 120 kW
• Intrinsically safe battery with Battery Management System (BMS) and suitable for operation
on SINAMICS DCP
• Main breaker for disconnecting the battery
