Carbon Drive™ Mobile App User Guide
The "Gates Carbon Drive™ Mobile app measures the belt tension sonically. Pluck the belt
like a guitar string and the smart phone mic inputs the vibration sound wave. The app then
uses to sound wave to compute the resultant belt tension vibration frequency in hertz
The room must be quiet
There is an important test condition stipulation to successfully use the Carbon Drive™" app,
"This app must be used in a quiet environment." The app uses the sound of the belt vibra-
tion to compute the belt tension frequency. Any external noises picked up by the micro-
phone will interfere with and affect the accuracy of the measurement results.
IMPORTANT: This app must be used in a quiet environment.

The "Gates Carbon Drive™ Mobile" App is a free app that can be downloaded from the
"APP Store" or from the Gates Carbon Drive website.
