Center conductor depth measurement
Be sure the outer nut assembly of the 7-mm port connector is not loose. It should be
torqued to 25 inch-lbs. Use a 1/2-inch torque wrench on the gold flats of the outer nut
assembly.
Measuring with collet removed. Center conductor depth with collet removed is the
more critical specification for meeting electrical performance.
Specification: (collet removed)
Minimum recession: 0.000 inch (0.000 mm)
Maximum recession: 0.003 inch (0.076 mm)
Measurement procedure:
1. Use the collet extractor (supplied in the 7-mm cal kit box) to remove the collet.
2. Using the gage from the 7-mm cal kit, measure and record the center conductor depth.
If necessary, refer to the cal kit manual for instructions on how to calibrate, zero, and
use the gage.
3. If the depth is within tolerance, replace the collet. The procedure is complete. If not in
tolerance, the center pin and bead assembly should be replaced or shimmed to bring it
into tolerance. Use the center conductor pin and bead assembly removal procedure.
Measuring with collet installed. Center conductor depth with collet installed is rarely
checked. If the collet has normal spring out when there is no contact pressure and it moves
freely, then it is usually all right.
Specification: (collet installed)
Minimum protrusion: 0.004 inch (0.101 mm)
Maximum protrusion: 0.015 inch (0.381 mm)
Measurement Procedure:
1. Install a collet if one is not already installed.
2. Using the gage from the 7-mm cal kit, measure and record the center conductor depth.
If necessary, refer to the cal kit manual for instructions on how to calibrate, zero, and
use the gage.
If the depth is within tolerance, the procedure is complete. If not in tolerance, use the
3.
measurement above to measure the depth with the collet removed. If the depth, with
the collet removed, is within tolerance replace the collet with a new one and remeasure.
