Diesel particulate filter
warning indicator
(diesel engine models)
! When diesel particulate filter warn-
ing indicator appears
The diesel particulate filter warning indi-
cator appears when the filter is not able to
automatically burn the soot and the
accumulated particulate matter exceeds
the specified limit.
When the diesel particulate filter warning
indicator appears, drive the vehicle under
the following conditions after the engine
has been warmed up completely.
. Engine speed (MT models only): 1,800
to 2,500 rpm
. Vehicle speed: 60 km/h (37 mph) or
faster is preferred.
. Driving time for burn treatment: 15
minutes or more
NOTE
. Do not accelerate rapidly.
. For MT models with the gear shift
indicator, accelerate the vehicle ac-
cording to the upshift timing shown in
the gear shift indicator. During regen-
eration of the diesel particulate filter,
the gear shift indicator will prompt the
driver to accelerate to the engine speed
necessary for regeneration. For details
about the gear shift indicator, refer to
"Gear shift indicator (except Australia
models)" F7-14.
. For MT models, if it is difficult to
maintain all these conditions, maintain-
ing at least the specified engine speed
will have some effect for burning soot.
Driving under these conditions will in-
crease the inside temperature of the filter
and burn the accumulated soot to elim-
inate it. The warning indicator disappears
when the soot is eliminated.
WARNING
Even if the diesel particulate filter
warning indicator appears, continu-
ing to drive does not damage the
engine and diesel particulate filter
immediately. Safely drive the vehicle
according to all road laws and the
traffic conditions. Otherwise, it may
cause an accident or traffic viola-
tion.
NOTE
While the soot is burning in the diesel
particulate filter, the driveability, engine
revolutions, engine sound and smell of
emission gas may change.
! When diesel particulate filter warn-
ing indicator flashes
When the diesel particulate filter warning
indicator flashes, we recommend that you
consult the nearest SUBARU dealer for an
immediate inspection.
CAUTION
If you continue to drive the vehicle
while the diesel particulate filter
warning indicator is on, the warning
indicator will begin to flash. In this
case, we recommend that you con-
sult the nearest SUBARU dealer for
an immediate inspection. Otherwise,
the engine and diesel particulate
filter may be damaged.

Over-rev warning light
(yellow) (MT diesel en-
gine models)
If engine over-revving is likely to occur, a
buzzer will sound and the over-rev warn-
ing light on the combination meter will
flash in yellow. For more details, refer to
"Over-rev warning" F7-16.
