430 Wheels and tyres
The tyre-change tool kit includes the following:
Jack
R
Wheel wrench
R
Wheel studs
R
Extension attachment for wheel studs, if nec-
R
essary (depending on vehicle version)
Folding chock
R
Ratchet ring spanner
R
Preparing the vehicle for a wheel change
Requirements:
The vehicle is not on a slope.
R
The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
R
ground.
The required tyre-change tool kit is available.
R

If your vehicle is not equipped with the tyre-
change tool kit, consult a qualified specialist
workshop to find out about suitable tools.
Apply the electric parking brake manually.

Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
#
position.
Shift the transmission to position j.
#
Vehicles with AIRMATIC: set the normal vehi-
#
cle level (
page 284).

Switch off the vehicle.
#
Make sure that the vehicle cannot be started.
#
Place chocks or other suitable items under the
#
front and rear of the wheel that is diagonally
opposite the wheel you wish to change.
Unload the vehicle.

Removing and fitting the wheel trim/hub caps
Requirements:
The vehicle is prepared for a wheel change
R
(
page 430).

Plastic hub cap
To remove: turn the centre cover of the hub
#
cap anti-clockwise and remove the hub cap.
To fit: make sure that the centre cover of the
#
hub cap is turned anti-clockwise.
Aluminium hub cap
To remove: position socket

change tool kit on hub cap 1.
Position wheel spanner
3
on socket 2.
#
Using wheel spanner 3, turn hub cap
#
anti-clockwise and remove it.
To fit: follow the instructions above in reverse
#
order.

Specified tightening torque: 25 Nm.
