Do not stop the e n g i ne i m m e d iately after p u l l i n g a

I f the turbocharger is defective a n d must b e r e p ­
laced, first c he c k for the cause o f the defect i n
reference 10 the f o l l o w i n g i t e m s and r e p l a c e parts i f
necessary:
Engine o i l l e v e l and quality
Conditions under w h i c h turbocharger w a s used
O i l lines leading to turbocharger
U s e caution w h e n removing a n d reinstalling the tur­
boc harger assembly. Do not drop i t or bang it against
anything or grasp i t by e a s i l y - deformed parts, such
as the a c t uator or rod, w h e n m o v i n g .
B e fore remo v i n g the turbocharger, p l u g the i n take
and e x haust pots and oil inlet to prevent entry o f d i r t
or o t her fore i g n material.
I f replacing the turboc harger, check for accumula ­
tion o f s l u d g e part i c le s i n the oil p i p e s and, i f
necessary, replace t h e o i l p i p e s .
Completely remove the gaskets adhered to t h e
lubrication o i l p i p e flanged a n d t u r b o c h a r g e r o i l
flange.
I f replac i n g bolts o r n u ts, d o so o n l y w i t h the
specified new ones to guard against breakage or
deformation.
I I replac i n g the turbocharger, put 2 0 c c 1 1 . 2 c u in.
o i l into the turbocharger a l l inlet and t u r n the
impeller wheel by h a n d to spread o i l to the bearing.

overha u l i n g or replacing the e n g i ne, c u t the fuel
supply a n d ignition function after reassembly a n d
crank the e n g i n e for 30 s e c o n d s to d i s tribute oil
throughout the e n g i n e . Then a l low the e n g i ne to idle
for 6 0 seconds.
