Preparing the vehicle for a wheel change
Requirements:
The required tyre-change tool kit is available.
R
If your vehicle is not equipped with the tyre-
change tool kit, consult a qualified specialist
workshop to find out about suitable tools.
The vehicle is not on a slope.
R
The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level
R
ground.
Apply the electric parking brake manually.

Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead
#
position.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
#
shift into position j.
Vehicles with level control system: set the
#
normal vehicle level ( page 215).

Switch off the engine.
#
Make sure that the engine cannot be started.
#
Place chocks or other suitable items under
#
the front and rear of the wheel that is diago‐
nally opposite the wheel you wish to change.
Remove the hub caps if necessary
#
( page 337).

Raise the vehicle ( page 338).

Removing and fitting the wheel trim/hub
caps
Requirements:
The vehicle is prepared for a wheel change
R
( page 337).

Plastic hub cap
To remove: turn the centre cover of the hub
#
cap anti-clockwise and remove the hub cap.
To fit: make sure that the centre cover of the
#
hub cap is turned anti-clockwise.
Position the hub cap and turn the centre
#
cover clockwise until the hub cap engages
physically and audibly.

Aluminium hub cap
To remove: position socket
#
change tool kit on hub cap 1.
Position wheel spanner 3
#
Using wheel spanner 3, turn hub cap
#
anti-clockwise and remove it.
To fit: follow the instructions above in
#
reverse order.
% Specified tightening torque: 25 Nm.
