336 Wheels and tyres
rear wheels wear more in the centre of the
R
tyre
Do not drive with tyres that have too little tread
depth. This significantly reduces traction on wet
roads (aquaplaning).
On vehicles with the same front and rear wheel
size, you can interchange the wheels every
5000 to 10,000 km, depending on the wear.
Ensure the direction of rotation is maintained for
the wheels.
Observe the instructions and safety notes on
"Changing a wheel" when doing so
(
page 337).

Notes on storing wheels
When storing wheels, observe the following
notes:
After removing wheels, store them in a cool,

dry and preferably dark place.
Protect the tyres from contact with oil,
R
grease or fuel.

You could otherwise fail to recognise
dangers.
Apart from some country-specific variants, vehi‐
cles are not equipped with a tyre-change tool kit.
For more information on which tyre-changing
tools are required and approved for performing a
wheel change on your vehicle, consult a qualified
specialist workshop.
You require the following tools, for example, to
change a wheel:
Jack

Chock

Wheel wrench
R
Centring pin
R

The jack weighs approximately 3.4 kg.
The maximum load capacity of the jack can
be found on the sticker affixed to the jack.
The jack is maintenance-free. If there is a
malfunction, please contact a qualified spe‐
cialist workshop.
The tyre-change tool kit is located under the
boot floor.

Depending on the model, the tyre change
tool kit may be located at other positions
under the boot floor.
