Med. Flush Medium and Low Procedure
Test Fuel:
Follow the guidelines of the cordwood standard (E3053-17) for correct moisture
and weight ratios for the core and sub loads. The most important part is that
there are six pieces in total. The nominal length is 15'', to fit in the stove properly
two of the pieces be close to 16'' for weight and bottom layer stability, these are
to be placed in East/West direction. The remaining four pieces must be 14-14.25''
at most to fit North/South direction.
Coal Bed:
The coal bed is always a result of running a high burn. There may be large pieces
of fuel left after the high burn, as soon as the high burn has been complete, move
the bigger raw pieces toward the middle of the firebox stacked up for best
combustion. You should have a few pounds to burn down until you reach the low
end of the coal bed. Load the test fuel at the very low end of the coal bed within
0.2lbs. This allows more room to place the fuel.
Fuel Loading & Settings:
Level the coal bed before you start sampling. There is no need to use the bypass
due to the temperature of the unit. Place the two bottom pieces in first. The rear
piece will need to be buried in the coal bed for the top pieces to fit properly. The
front bottom piece should be able to rest on the doghouse. Place the top pieces
in, check and make sure the door will shut and none of the fuel is in the way.
There should be a gap between the bottom pieces as well as the top pieces to
allow proper combustion. Leave the door cracked approximately one inch for
three to five minutes. The catalyst temperature should be above 600 degrees
Fahrenheit before the door is closed. Keep the primary control open for 12-15
minutes, making sure the stove is burning clean and the catalyst is above 800°
Fahrenheit before you shut down the burn setting. Sometimes it will burn the
15% allowed so keep an eye on that.
