Introduction
Unloading from the middle of tape
In addition to conventional Normal Unload (unloading
by rewinding the tape) and Fast Unload (unloading
from the closer end, i.e. tape top or tape end)
functions, the unit features the "Fast Unload on the
half way" function (unloading from around the middle
of a tape).
Select the Unload mode that best suits your system.
Normal Unload: For data exchange
Fast Unload: For a system where the reload time is
important, or a system where frequent data
appending operations are required
Fast Unload on the halfway: For a system, such as
an archive system where frequent random data
access operations are required
"Fast Unload on the halfway" decreases the average
time to randomly search through a mass of data in an
HSM (Hierarchical Storage Management) system to
almost half that with conventional models.
Excellent error-correction ability
The powerful ECC (error-correction circuit), which
uses the newly developed ASIC and the read/write
retry functions, achieves an extraordinarily low bit
-17
error rate of less than 10
Highly reliable data management
Not to miss any data error, CRC (Cyclic Redundancy
Check) codes beside ECC are added to data being
recorded, which are checked upon playback. An error-
correction circuit is is provided in the buffer memory.
In addition, parity checks are performed for all the data
paths, in the pursuit of data perfection.
Long life and high reliability
Thanks to improved tape transport based on the highly
praised DTF-1 drives, newly developed heads, and
long-life motor, improved air flow, long service life
and high reliability are achieved to protect your
valuable data.

in data recording/playback.
Powerful self-diagnosis
With its powerful self-diagnostic functions, the system
displays an error message if any abnormality is
detected in start-up or operations.
Another self-diagnostic function mode for off-line
checking is also available.
The operating statuses are always logged in the unit,
which can be read while an operation is in progress,
permitting you to obtain device information without
stopping the system.
The self-diagnostic operations must be performed by
authorized personnel only.
Mountable in various tape library systems
The drive can be used in a large-capacity tape library
system, such as the DMS-B9 system (with auto loader
that can hold 9 cassettes), the DMS-B35 system
(which can hold 1 drive with 35 cassettes or 2 drives
with 30 cassettes), or the PetaSite, a storage system
that can handle huge volumes of data of up to petabyte
sizes.
You can select the library system best suited for
research data management in laboratory or research
department of a company that requires a large amount
of data backup and archiving at high speeds, or
management of customer data or business information.
