Formatting in Manual Load mode
When a cassette is inserted into the unit, [Unloaded]
appears in the display window.
If you recognize that the cassette is unformatted, send
the ERASE command from the host computer, or
execute "Format" with OPERATION menu (page 37).
When the formatting process ends, the tape is rewound
to the beginning.
If an error occurs during formatting, the cassette is
ejected.
If you press the UNLOAD button while [Unloaded] is
displayed with an unformatted cassette inserted,
[[E] Load>0002] appears in the display window, and
the cassette is ejected. In such a case, insert the
cassette again and execute formatting.
If you execute formatting with a tape loaded ([Loaded]
is displayed), the data on the tape will be lost.
However, "Format" with OPERATION menu will be
ignored in this condition.
If formatting fails
If formatting fails, an error message appears in the
display window.
For the display during formatting and error messages, see
"Messages" (page 21).
Load
(DTF)
To write or read data to or from a tape, the tape must
be loaded from the inserted cassette.
During a load operation, the VSIT and DIT on the tape
are read into internal memory, and the information is
checked.
When checking of the VSIT and DIT is finished with
no error, loading is completed successfully.
Note
The tape position where loading ends depends on the
previous unloading method, but the logical tape
position after loading is always located at the
beginning of the user data, regardless of the actual tape
position.
For example, when data writing is executed in
response to an SCSI command after loading, the tape
is automatically rewound to the beginning of the user
data, then data are written to the tape.
Loading in Auto Load mode
Turn the power on, and insert a cassette.
The VSIT and DIT are read into internal memory and
checked automatically.
If an error occurs during loading, an error message is
displayed. The cassette is not ejected.
Loading in Manual Load mode
There are two methods:
Method 1
1
Turn the power on.
2
Insert a cassette.
3
Press the UNLOAD button.
Method 2
1
Turn the power on.
2
Insert a cassette.
3
Send the MOUNT/UNMOUT command with the
MOUNT bit set to 1 from the host computer.
In either method, the VSIT and DIT are read into
internal memory and checked.
If an error occurs during loading, an error message is
displayed. In method 1 the cassette is ejected, but in
method 2 it is not.
