Cleaning the brakes

Cleaning the brake caliper
and the rear brake disc
The brake dust created during
operation settles on the brake
calipers and the brake pistons.
The dirt that sticks to the brake
pistons, in particular, can impair
the free movement and thus the
response characteristics of the
brakes. The brake calipers there-
fore need to be cleaned regularly
after each event.
The braking effect of the rear
brake can be impaired by "mar-
bles" from tires landing on and
sticking to the rear brake disc
during riding. The rear brake disc
therefore needs to be cleaned
regularly after each event.
The work described requires a
certain degree of knowledge of
the operating principle and main-
tenance of brake systems. If you
are not sure whether this work
is within your skill range, please
contact a specialist workshop,
preferably a BMW Motorrad part-
ner.
