4. Connect the west network backbone fiber optic cable to the OADM west
5. Connect the east backbone fiber optic cable to the OADM east connector.
Job aid
The Avaya passive CWDM optical add drop multiplexer (OADM) sends and receives signals
to and from CWDM SFPs installed in the switch. The OADM adds or drops a specific
wavelength from the optical fiber, and allows all other wavelengths to pass through unaffected.
The OADM supports two separate fiber pathways traveling in opposite directions (east and
west) so that the network remains viable even if the fiber is broken at one point on the ring.
The following figure shows OADM operation and equipment side connections.
