Note: MegaRAID adapters do not support the use of active SAS cables. If your configuration
requires the use of MegaRAID adapters, passive cables must be used.

Active Cables
During the process of Daisy Chaining the Ultrastar Data102 enclosures, active cables must be used when
connecting between enclosures. The use of active cables provides improved signal integrity between the
enclosures.
Passive Cabling
If you are connecting more than one host port per I/O, you must connect cables to every other port per
IOM and do not need all six ports, Western Digital recommends connecting the cables to every other port
as a best practice. The recommended connection order on IOM A ports A6, A4, and A2 for subsystems
with three or fewer connected hosts. If more than three hosts are required, the recommended connection
order on IOM A ports A5, A3, and A1 to be connected next. The recommended connection order on IOM
B ports B1, B3, and B5 for subsystems with three or fewer connected hosts. If more than three hosts are
required, the recommended connection order on IOM A ports B2, B4, and B6 to be connected next.
* Active Cables can be used for both direct and daisy-chain connections. xx represents the length of the cable and can be
replaced by length of cable in meters; preceding numbers are the qualified cable family.
