Filling the heating system and checking for leaks

Before putting the heating system into operation, it must
be checked to ensure that no leaks will occur during
operation. Pressurise the heating system with a pressu-
re equal to the response pressure of the safety valve.
RISK TO HEALTH
from contamination of drinking water.
B To prevent contamination of the potable
water (such as through water from the
heating system), always observe the
country-specific regulations and stan-
dards. In Europe, observe standard
EN 1717.
SYSTEM DAMAGE
due to excess pressure when testing for
leaks. Pressure, control and safety equip-
ment may be damaged by excessive pres-
sure.
B Ensure that, when you carry out a leak
test, no pressure, control or safety
equipment is fitted, which cannot be
shut off towards the boiler water space.
SYSTEM DAMAGE
through temperature stresses.
Tension cracks can result from temperatu-
re stress as a result of filling the heating
system whilst it is still hot. The boiler will
then leak.
B Only fill the heating system when cold
(the flow temperature must not exceed
40 °C).
B Observe the water quality in accor-
dance with the operating manual; also
enter the amount of fill water and its
quality.
B Close the pressure expansion vessel against the
system by closing the cap valve.
B Open the mixing and shut-off valves on the heating
water side.
B Slowly fill the heating system via the on-site fill valve.
During filling, observe the pressure gauge.
