Multimedia communication
To communicate with users on external communities, add their contact information in your personal
address book. Strictly follow the naming conventions to successfully communicate with external
communities. For more information, see
page 54.

Sending an instant message

About this task
Use this procedure to send an instant message.
Procedure
1. Do one of the following:
• Enter a SIP address in the call entry box on the Multimedia toolbar and click IM.
• Enter a SIP address in the To box in the Start Session window and choose IM from the
Select Action list.
• Select a contact or call log entry and select Multimedia > IM or click IM on the
Multimedia toolbar.
• Select the IM tab in the Conversation window of an active call.
• Double-click any Friend, Outlook contact, or call log entry and click the IM button on the
Multimedia toolbar.
• Right-click any Friend, Outlook contact, or call log entry and select IM from the shortcut
menu.
• Select the IM tab in the Receiving Call window of an incoming call.
The Conversation window appears or expands to show the IM control panel where you can
send a text message to the originator of the call.
2. Type your message in the instant message control panel. You can format the text by using
the font control button.
3. Press Enter on your keyboard, or click the SEND button in the instant messaging control
panel.
IM controls include:
• send emoticon
• change font style
• print content
• enable timestamp
• clear content
• save content to file
