5. Remove the dipstick "1" and extract the
engine oil using the oil changer "2".

6. Fill the engine with the specified amount
of the recommended engine oil through
the oil filler hole. Install the oil filler cap
and dipstick.
Do not overfill the engine with engine oil.
Otherwise, the engine could be damaged
or oil could leak. If the engine oil is above
the upper level, extract the excess engine
oil until the oil is at the proper level.
Recommended engine oil:
4-stroke motor oil with combination of the
following SAE and API oil classifications:
API: SE, SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL
SAE: 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40
Replacement engine oil quantity:
Without oil filter replacement:
4.3 L (4.55 US qt, 3.78 lmp qt)
7. Leave the outboard motor off for 5–10
minutes.
8. Remove the dipstick "1" and wipe it
clean.
9. Insert the dipstick "1" completely for a
correct measurement and remove it
again.
10. Check that the oil level indicated on the
dipstick "1" is between the upper mark "a"
and the lower mark "b".

11. Start the engine and check that the oil
pressure alert indicator does not come
on. Also, check that there is no oil leak-
age.
If the oil pressure alert indicator comes
on or if there is oil leakage, stop the
engine and find the cause. Continued
operation with a problem could cause
severe engine damage.

Checking the engine oil level

1. Check the oil level. See "Checking the
engine oil level" (10-5).

Replacing the oil filter

1. Extract the engine oil using an oil
changer. See steps 1–5 in "Changing the
engine oil" (10-9).
2. Place a rag under the oil filter, and then
remove the oil filter.
TIP:
Make sure to clean up any oil spills.
