Placing Originals

Original documents should be placed in the following positions, depending on the size and type of
the document, as well as the machine function used.
Platen Glass
Use when scanning books, originals on heavyweight paper, thin paper, and transparencies.
Feeder
Originals placed in the feeder are automatically fed to the platen glass for scanning. Using the
feeder, two-sided originals can be automatically reversed and scanned on both sides.

Orientation of Originals

You can place documents either vertically or horizontally. For the send functions, the orientation for
copying and for scanning monochrome originals for sending is different from the orientation for
scanning color originals for sending.
NOTE
• The orientation for placing and outputting originals differs for various applications. For details, see "Docu-
