TROUBLESHOOTING
Faults
The engine cannot be cranked (electric
starter).
Engine does not speed up.
Engine has no idle.
Engine stalls or is popping into the carbu-
retor.
Engine overheats.
Engine has too little power.
High oil consumption
Possible cause
Main fuse burned out
Low external temperature
Carburetor running over because float
needle dirty or worn.
Loose carburetor jets
Electronic ignition adjustment defective
Idling jet blocked
Adjusting screws on carburetor distorted
Spark plug defective
Ignition system defective
Lack of fuel
Engine takes in bad air
Too little coolant in cooling system
Too little air stream
Radiator fins very dirty
Bent radiator hose
Thermostat defective
Defect in radiator fan system
Fuel feed interrupted
Air filter very dirty
Exhaust system leaky, deformed or too
little glass fiber yarn filling in main
silencer.
Valve clearance too little
Electronic ignition adjustment defective
Engine vent hose bent
Engine oil level too high
Engine oil too thin (low viscosity)
Measure
Remove the main fuse. (
Fit the main fuse. (

Recharge the battery. Establish the
reason for discharging or have it
checked in a KTM workshop.
Have carburetor checked.
Have carburetor checked.
Have ignition system checked.
Clean carburetor.
Have the carburetor adjusted.
Change spark plug.
Have ignition system checked.
Clean and check the fuel system and
carburetor.
Check rubber sleeves and carburetor
for tightness.
Check the cooling system for leakage.
Check the coolant level. (
Switch off engine when standing.
Clean radiator fins.
Replace the radiator hose.
Have thermostat removed and checked.

Have the radiator fan system checked.
Check the tank breathers.
Check the fuel filter.
Have the fuel screen of the tanks
checked.
Clean fuel tap.
Clean carburetor.
Have the fuel pump checked.
Clean the air filter. (

Have valve clearance adjusted.
Have ignition system checked.
Route the vent hose without bends or
replace it if necessary.
Check the engine oil level. (
