Problem Solving
To prepare the system for diagnostic testing, perform the
following:
Notice: Power off the system and any external peripheral devices
before disconnecting the peripheral cables from the system. Failure
to do so can cause permanent damage to the system and/or the
peripheral devices.
1.
Power off the system and all external peripheral devices.
Then, disconnect the peripheral devices from the system,
except the keyboard and video display.
2.
Make sure the system power cord is plugged into a properly
grounded AC outlet.
3
Make sure your video display and keyboard are correctly
connected to the system. Turn on the video display, and set
its brightness and contrast controls to at least two-thirds of
their maximum ranges (refer to the documentation supplied
with your video display).
4.
If the operating system normally loads from the hard disk
drive, make sure there is no floppy disk in floppy disk drive
A. Otherwise, place a floppy disk containing the operating
system files in drive A.
5.
Power on the system. If the power LED does not light, refer
to "Power LED Does Not Light" later in this chapter.
If the system boots up, monitor POST while it is running to
determine if the problem is due to a faulty system board,
keyboard, or improper configuration. If POST does not detect any
configuration errors, the system beeps once and boots up. If
POST detects configuration errors, the system beeps twice and
displays a message similar to the following:
To continue press: ...................................................................Space bar
To configure system press: ................................................................ F1
