Replacing the Hard Drive
3.1.
Connect the power and data cables to the hard drive. When the hard drive is
placed in the DVR, the cables should angle up, away from the bottom panel of
the DVR.
3.2.
Position the hard drive over the hard drive screw holes (×4) in the bottom panel
of the DVR.
NOTE
There are 2 sets of hard drive screw holes: one for 3.5" drives, and one for 2.5" drives.
For 3.5" drives, the power and data cables should point toward the front panel of the
DVR.
For 2.5" drives, the power and data cables should point toward the fan on the side panel
of the DVR.
3.3.
Holding the hard drive securely in place, turn the DVR over. Keep holding the
hard drive while inserting the hard drive screws (×4) on the bottom panel of the
DVR (use the screw configuration on the left for 3.5" drives, or the one on the
right for 2.5" drives).
NOTE
16-channel DVRs feature 2 hard drive bays, allowing you to install 2 hard drives up to 6TB
each. If you are using 2 hard drives, ensure both hard drives are secured with 4 hard drive
screws each (use the screw configuration on the left for 3.5" drives, or the one on the right
for 2.5" drives).
3.4.
Keep holding the hard drive and turn the DVR back over.
4. Reattach the cover and replace the screws in the side and back panel of the DVR.
NOTE
You must format any newly-installed hard drive in order for it to function properly with the sys-
tem. For full instructions on formatting the hard drive, see 12.4.2 Formatting the Hard Drive, page 74.
