S/MIME Communication Settings

Before specifying settings to use S/MIME

By specifying settings for S/MIME communication, e-mail messages can be
sent encrypted. In order to enable the S/MIME settings, a digital certificate
for each destination must be registered. Digital certificates can be registered
using any of the following three methods.

The following procedure describes how to register certificates by sending e-
mail messages to this machine.
Note
Register the e-mail address as a destination that uses S/MIME transmis-
sion.
Before sending e-mail, the "Automatically Obtain Certificates" parameter
(available from the S/MIME Communications Settings screen) must first
be set to "Yes".

From the machine's control panel, register the e-mail destination in the
address book.

Description
The certificate is registered by sending an e-mail message to this
machine from the client computer to be the e-mail destination. The
procedure is described below.
Certificate files registered on the LDAP server are searched for and
retrieved. For details, contact the network administrator.
Specify where certificate information is saved when using Web
Connection to register the destination. For details, refer to the Web
Connection User's Guide.
