Muffler

Always check and, if necessary,
repair the fuel system, carburetor,
air filter and ignition system before
looking for faults on the engine.

– Remove the shroud, b 6.4
Before removing the muffler, set the
piston to top dead center to ensure
that no dirt falls into the cylinder.

: Pry out the plugs (1)
– do not re-use plugs that have
been removed.

: Take out the screws (1) and (2).
: Remove the muffler (3), check
and replace if necessary.
MS 261, MS 261 C
: Remove the exhaust gasket (1).
– Remove and install the spark
arresting screen – see instruction
manual.
: Check the insulating mat (1) and
replace it if necessary.

: Position new insulating mat (1)
as follows
a = flush
b = 15 mm
: Bond new insulating mat (1) in
position.
Installing

– Position the machine upright.
– Cover the exhaust port. Remove

: Check and clean the sealing
Always replace components with
damaged sealing faces.

– Position the exhaust gasket (1)
: Fit the exhaust gasket (1) and
any dirt from around the cylinder
and exhaust port.
