The Dell software cannot be
installed.

Error and Maintenance Messages

As with any sophisticated office product, errors may occur and supply items may have to be replaced. If this happens,
your machine identifies the error or required routine maintenance and shows the appropriate message. The most
common error and maintenance messages are shown in the table.
Follow the instructions in the Actions to improve the status.

If the Security Software warning appears on the computer screen during the installation,
change the Security Software settings to permit the Dell product setup program or other
program to run.
(Macintosh)
If you are using a firewall function of anti-spyware or antivirus security software, temporarily
disable it and then install the Dell software.
Cause
The back cover of the machine is not closed
completely.
The 2-sided tray is not installed completely.
The toner cartridge is not installed correctly.
The front cover is not completely closed.
The fusing unit cover is not completely closed
or paper was jammed in the back of the
machine when you turned on the power.
The corona wire on the drum unit must be
cleaned.
The drum unit or the toner cartridge and
drum unit assembly is not installed correctly.
The drum unit is near the end of its life.
The paper is jammed underneath the paper
tray or the fusing unit.
The paper is jammed inside the machine.
The paper is jammed in the back of the
machine.
Action
Close the back cover of the machine until it
locks to the closed position.
Install the 2-sided tray firmly in the machine.
Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit
assembly. Take out the toner cartridge, and put
it back in the drum unit again. Reinstall the
toner cartridge and drum unit assembly in the
machine.
If the problem continues, contact Dell
Customer Service or your local Dell dealer.
Open and then firmly close the front cover of
the machine.
• Close the fusing unit cover located inside
the back cover of the machine.
• Make sure paper is not jammed inside the
back cover of the machine, and then close
the fusing unit cover and press OK.
Clean the corona wire in the drum unit.
Remove the drum unit, remove the toner
cartridge from the drum unit, and put the
toner cartridge back into the drum unit.
Reinstall the drum unit in the machine.
Order a new drum unit set before you get the
Replace Drum X message.
Clear the Jam in the paper tray or the fusing
unit.
Open the front cover, remove the drum and
toner, and clear the paper jam.
Open the back cover and remove the jammed
paper. Close the back cover.
