Problem
You see the on-screen
message:
'No channel (number)'.
The picture appears to be
either:
(i) 'squashed' (from side
to side or from top to
bottom); or
(ii) cut off at the top and
bottom of the screen.
Recordings made on the
VCR are in black and
white.
You cannot hear Digital
audio from equipment
attached to the digital
audio connector.
There is no sound going to
equipment attached to the
SCART connectors.
Possible cause
You have selected a
channel number that
currently has no channel
associated with it.
The TV screen format
setting on the TV settings
screen has not been set to
match your TV.
You have set 'S-Video' on
the TV Settings screen, but
your VCR is not S-Video-
compatible.
(i) The programme is not
transmitted with the
Digital audio stream
required.
(ii) The Digital stream is
available, but Auto-
handling is set to 'Off' on
the Digital Audio Output
screen (this is the factory
setting).
(i) You have set Auto-
handling to 'On' on the
Digital Audio Output
screen and a Digital audio
stream has been
automatically selected.
(ii) Auto-handling is 'Off'
but you have used the
Options Window to select
a Digital stream.
Both of these will cause
the audio output at the
SCART connectors to be
muted.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Suggested remedy
In the future, this channel number may be
used for a channel. In the meantime, select a
different channel.
Display the TV Settings screen (see page 35).
If you have a widescreen TV, set '16:9'
otherwise set '4:3'.
Note: If you have a widescreen TV, its remote
control may have a 'zoom' button which alters
the way that the picture appears on the
screen, so you may also need to use this
button.
Set 'RGB' (if you have an RGB TV) or 'CVBS'.
Check that audio options are available as
follows. While you are watching the
programme, press the Opt button. If Options
are available, the Options Window displays.
Highlight 'Audio' and use the L R buttons to
display the different settings that are
available. Highlight 'Digital' (if present) and
then press OK.
If, generally, you wish to hear Digital audio
when it is available, change Auto-handling to
'On'.
Use the Options Window to choose a normal
audio stream (see page 23).
