WINTER
PRECAUTIONS
Choice of tyres
Winter
or "Contact"
tyres
(of
laminated
thermal rubber) give good grip
on
snow
and
ice.
You
should
however:
-
fit
them to
all
four
wheels to
maintain
the
balance
of
the
vehicle,
- drive slowly
on
snow or ice.
Consult
your
PEUGEOT
dealer to
choose the
model
suitable
for your
406 Coupe.
Chains
allow
you
to drive
on
snow.
You
should however:
-
fit
the chains
on
the
front
wheels,
-
check
the
tension
of
the chains,
-
drive slowly,
-
not
drive faster
on
cleared
roads.
Consult your
PEUGEOT
dealer
to chose the
model
suitable for your 406 Coupe.
Mechanical precautions
The battery
is subjected
to heavy loads
in
winter: check
the charge frequently.
The original
coolant
ensures
protection
against
freezing down to -35°C
minimum.
The handbrake
can seize at
very
low
tem-
peratures.
Do not
apply
it,
use
a
chock
or
engage 1st gear
or
reverse
gear
for
a
manual
gearbox or
P
for
an
automatic gearbox.
For
the screen-wash
reservoir
use
the
anti-
freeze
fluid
sold by
PEUGEOT
dealers.
The
wipers
Before
operating the
wipers
in
snow
or in
very
low
temperatures,
it
is essential to clear or
unblock
the
blades.
Precautions
for
the bodywork
Lights
and
indicators:
these
soon
become
dirty
in winter. Remember
to clean them fre-
quently using a
soft
damp
cloth.
Locks:
these
must
be lubricated
with a
product
recommended
by
Automobiles
PEUGEOT.
Rubber
door
seals:
use a protective
lubri-
cant
recommended
by Automobiles
PEUGEOT.
Air inlets:
remember
to keep
them
clear at all
times.
When winter is
over
Wash
the vehicle
completely,
paying
particu-
lar
attention to the underside
of
the body
and
the
wheel
arches.
